Biography

Julia Noordegraaf is a professor of Digital Heritage in the Department of Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam. She is the director of the Amsterdam Centre for Cultural Heritage and Identity (ACHI), which focuses on research priorities in digital humanities. Noordegraaf leads the digital humanities research program Creative Amsterdam (CREATE) that examines the history of urban creativity through digital data methods. Her research explores the preservation and reuse of audiovisual digital heritage. She has authored a monograph titled "Strategies of Display" and served as the principal editor for the book "Preserving and Exhibiting Media Art." Currently, she oversees various research projects, including a Horizon 2020 Marie Curie ITN project, and participates in the Steering Committee for initiatives related to artificial intelligence and its societal implications. Additionally, Noordegraaf coordinates the Amsterdam Time Machine project and is involved with the European Time Machine project, which aims to build a simulator for 5,000 years of European history. Her expertise lies in Digital Cultural Heritage, Digital Humanities, and AI Humanities.
