Biography

Julia Noordegraaf is a professor of Digital Heritage in the Department of Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam. She is the director of the Amsterdam Centre for Cultural Heritage and Identity (ACHI), where she leads the digital humanities research program Creative Amsterdam (CREATE) that explores the history of urban creativity using digital data methods. Noordegraaf is a member of the Steering Committee for the newly established Research Priority Area (RPA) focusing on the societal implications of AI technology. Her research primarily focuses on the preservation and reuse of audiovisual digital heritage. She has published significant works, including a monograph titled 'Strategies for Display' (2004/2012) and served as the principal editor for 'Preserving and Exhibiting Media Art' (2013). Noordegraaf manages the Cinema Context database pertaining to Dutch film culture and currently directs projects related to the conservation of digital art and the reuse of digital heritage in historical research. Additionally, she is involved with the Amsterdam Time Machine project, which aims to build a simulator for 5,000 years of European history. Her interests include Digital Cultural Heritage, Digital Humanities, AI Humanities, and Digital Source Criticism.
