Biography

Julia K. Parrish is a marine scientist whose research primarily focuses on marine conservation, seabird ecology, and citizen science. She serves as the Executive Director of the Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST), a project dedicated to enlisting participants to walk beaches in California and Alaska to search for dead birds and marine debris. In addition to her research role, she is the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the College of the Environment. Julia holds the Lowell Frankie L. Wakefield Endowed Professorship and has been recognized as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and the Leopold Leadership Fellow. She has been invited to speak at the White House as one of the “Champions of Change” for her contributions to public engagement in science and scientific literacy.
