Biography

Professor Julia Powles is a leading academic in the fields of law and technology, currently serving as Professor and Director of the UWA Tech & Policy Lab. With extensive experience in both legal practice and academia, she has held positions including Associate Professor and Honorary Research Fellow at prestigious institutions such as the University of Cambridge and Cornell Tech. Powles earned her Ph.D. in Law from the University of Cambridge, along with a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford and dual Bachelor’s degrees in Science and Law from the Australian National University and the University of Western Australia. Her current work focuses on the intersection of public policy, technology, and artificial intelligence, where she leads various research initiatives and advisory panels. Active in promoting ethical frameworks surrounding technology use, she has received multiple awards for her contributions to education and research.
