Biography

Julia Y. Rho graduated from the University of Warwick in 2015 with an undergraduate Master's in Chemistry (MChem). She continued at Warwick to complete her PhD in 2019 under the supervision of Professor Sebastien Perrier, where her thesis investigated the dynamic behavior of self-assembling cyclic peptide-polymer nanotubes for drug delivery applications. Following her doctoral studies, Julia undertook postdoctoral research at the Butler Polymer Laboratory at the University of Florida, working with Professor Brent Sumerlin on projects involving cyclic polymers and complex coacervates as well as photo-initiated polymerization techniques. After returning to the UK in 2021, she joined Warwick Medical School to develop sustainable gene delivery vectors targeting agricultural insect pests. In 2023, she took on the role of Group Leader at the University of Birmingham focusing on a wide range of projects related to polymer self-assembly, crystallization, and fluorescent dyes in DNA research. In 2024, Julia was appointed as a Lecturer in Organic Chemistry at University College London (UCL), where she has established her independent research group that concentrates on employing advanced microscopy techniques to understand polymeric nanoparticles in gene and drug delivery mechanisms.
