Dr. Julia Shapland

Biography

Julia Shapland is a Senior Lecturer of Accountancy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she also serves as the Academic Director for the Business Living Learning Community. With a Master’s degree in Accountancy (Taxation) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a Bachelor's degree with Highest Honors in Accounting from the University of Kentucky, Julia has built a strong foundation in accounting education. Her academic career includes positions such as Assistant Professor at Parkland College and various roles at the University of Illinois, where she has contributed significantly to the field of accountancy education through her teaching and leadership. Julia is recognized for her dedication to student engagement and excellence in accounting education, having received honors for her role as Faculty Director of the Alpha Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi. With a rich professional background that includes experience as a Tax Manager and Senior Tax Accountant, Julia brings practical insights into her teaching, enhancing the learning experience for her students. She is committed to developing students' understanding of accrual accounting and fostering their skills through internships and practical experiences in public accounting and business organizations.
