Dr. Julia Stegemann

Biography

Professor Julia Stegemann's research focuses on resource efficiency, rational decision-making, and environmental technologies, drawing on over thirty years of experience in the field. She is the founding Director of CircEL, the UCL Circular Economy Laboratory, which serves as a hub for research and education on resource efficiency. Her projects examine the geochemical properties of metabolism and the recycling of materials such as timber waste, alongside developing tools that enhance the use of anthropogenic resources. Julia's career began with the development and validation of a protocol for evaluating stabilized/solidified products in collaboration with Canadian regulators and other industrial partners, which has gained international recognition and informs current standards in waste management. She has led several significant projects, including the UKRI Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Centre for Mineral-based Construction Materials and participated in the development of neural network models to predict the properties of solidified products. Julia's collaborations extend to numerous national and international initiatives, including both consultancy work and contributions to various scientific committees in the field of construction and waste management.
