Biography

Julia Stoyanovich is an Associate Professor at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, where she also serves as the Director of the Center for Responsible AI. Her research interests focus on AI ethics, legal compliance, data management in AI systems, and responsible data practices. Julia has a strong commitment to making 'Responsible AI' synonymous with AI, seeking to engage stakeholders across academic, policy, and public domains regarding the benefits and risks associated with AI technologies. She has worked internationally on technology policy and regulation, including serving on the New York City Automated Decision Systems Task Force, appointed by Mayor Bill de Blasio. Julia holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Computer Science from Columbia University and a B.S. in Computer Science, Mathematics & Statistics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) and a senior member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
