Biography

Julia Totosy de Zepetnek is an Associate Professor at the University of Regina's Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies. She also holds an adjunct professorship in Biology and directs the Cardiovascular Metabolic Research Opportunities laboratories (CAMEROlabs). Her primary research interests include clarifying the mechanisms that modulate the effects of physical activity and diet on the microbiota-gut-brain axis in humans, with a specific emphasis on food intake regulation and energy balance. She explores the associations between bacterial communities in the gut and food intake regulation, focusing on appetite hormone responsiveness and sensitivity across different cohorts considering age, sex, levels of aerobic fitness, and degrees of metabolic dysfunction. Her work is funded by the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation (SHRF).
