Dr. Julian Booker

Biography

Julian Booker is a Professor of Mechanical Design Engineering at the University of Bristol. He holds a B.Eng. and a Ph.D. from Hull. His research focuses on the application of design methods across a broad spectrum of disciplines, particularly in the fields of concept design and optimisation. He is involved in developing novel electromechanical machines for renewable energy generation and more-electric aircraft systems, integrating effectively with the Electrical Energy Management Group. His work in the Solid Mechanics Group explores statistical and probabilistic design methods with applications in material failure assessment and the performance of machine components. Over the years, Booker has led various research projects, including development on fatigue resistance in engineering design, producing significant contributions to the understanding of fatigue failure using both computational and experimental methods. He is currently the principal investigator for numerous research initiatives aimed at enhancing design methodologies in the engineering sector.
