Dr. Julian Harris

Biography

Julian J. Harris, MD, MBA is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania, where he focuses on healthcare services technology. He is also a Partner at Deerfield, providing extensive research analysis on individual companies operating in the healthcare industry and collaborating with various healthcare services technology companies as investment partners. His previous leadership roles include founding President of CareAllies, part of Cigna’s multi-payer provider services, and leading strategic operations for Cigna's $500 million internal investment portfolio. Dr. Harris has also served as an adviser to Google Ventures, focusing on healthcare services. He has held significant positions in the federal government, including the White House Office of Management and Budget, overseeing a $1 trillion healthcare budget, and as the chief executive of an $11 billion Massachusetts Medicaid program. His academic credentials include a summa cum laude B.A. in Health Policy and Medical Ethics from Duke University, an M.Sc. from Oxford University, and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where he is an adjunct associate professor. He is a trustee at the New York Academy of Medicine and serves on various advisory boards.
