Biography

Julian Heng obtained his Bachelor's degree with Honours from the University of Western Australia and completed his Doctorate at the University of Melbourne at the Howard Florey Institute. He pursued postdoctoral training at the National Institute for Medical Research in the UK, where he held the CJ Martin Fellowship. In 2010, he established an independent research program at the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute, receiving a Career Development Fellowship. In 2014, he joined the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research at UWA as a Group Leader to advance gene discovery-related health translational outcomes. His previous roles include Research Associate Professor at Curtin University and Senior Research Development Officer at Telethon Kids Institute. Julian has authored 49 research publications with over 1,200 citations and led numerous presentations at international conferences. His expertise encompasses molecular cellular biology, genetics, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Currently, he also serves as the Programme Manager for the Global Disease Modelling team at UWA. He has served as an editorial board member for the International Journal of Neurology Research and participated in several grant review panels for major funding agencies in Australia.
