Professor Julian Satterthwaite graduated from Cardiff in 1996 and subsequently worked in various positions in general practice and hospitals. He completed a Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, after which he returned to Bristol and began work as a Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry. He completed a Master's degree in Conservative Dentistry from the Eastman Dental Institute in October 2001, and joined the University of Manchester's School of Dentistry in the same year. During his time there, he completed specialist training in Restorative Dentistry and earned his PhD in Biomaterials Science. Satterthwaite was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2009 and awarded a personal chair in 2013. He has been actively involved in postgraduate education and served as Director of Graduate Education for the School of Dentistry and as Lead for the Postgraduate Taught programmes. His research interests include factors influencing tooth restoration survival and the development of restorative materials.
