Dr. Julian Walker

Biography

Julian Walker is the Director of the Bartlett Development Planning Unit at University College London. With a background in social anthropology, he is a social development practitioner whose work focuses on social policy and mainstream development policy. He emphasizes understanding and responding to the relationship between diverse social identities and experiences of development, particularly regarding gender, disability, and age intersections. His research has developed methodological approaches for working with social identity in research and development interventions. Walker's research practices address urban governance, livelihoods, and citizenship practices of the urban poor, alongside issues of equity and social impacts of development interventions, especially in the context of policy and practice surrounding displacement and involuntary resettlement.
