Biography

Julián Zapata is a certified translator and translation researcher with a passion for languages and effective communication. He discovered his fascination with languages at a young age and began learning foreign languages as a teenager in Canada, which led him to pursue a career in translation. He completed his PhD in Translation Studies at the University of Ottawa in 2016. Over the last decade, he has taught a variety of courses encompassing English, Spanish, and French translation; terminology and terminotics; translation technology; and the professional aspects of translation at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He has served as a part-time professor at Université du Québec en Outaouais and Concordia University. Dr. Zapata has been involved in international projects related to translation process research and language translation technologies, and has provided training for translators. His work has been presented in more than 25 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas. His research has received funding from notable organizations such as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and Fonds de recherche du Québec – société et culture.
