Biography

Juliane Neuhaus is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the Institute of Social Anthropology and Cultural Studies at the University of Zurich (UZH). As part of her role, she alternates between teaching various courses while actively engaging in research. Her dissertation focused on plural dispute management in rural Papua New Guinea, examining the intersection of local law and state intervention in Morobe Province. She is particularly interested in the fields of legal anthropology, legal pluralism, and the anthropology of state and migration in Oceania, with a specific emphasis on issues such as colonialism and racism. Juliane has been involved in various academic and administrative duties, including student supervision and coordination of mobility programs such as SEMP. She is part of a team involved in study management for BA and MA programs. Her research endeavors have been supported by grants from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the German Research Foundation (DFG). Juliane’s academic path includes a significant position as Executive Director of the Swiss Ethnological Society from 2010 to 2017 and assistant roles at the University of Hamburg.
