Dr. Julie Archambault

Biography

Julie Soleil Archambault is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Concordia University. She completed her PhD in anthropology at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, in 2010. Dr. Archambault has held teaching positions at prominent institutions, including the London School of Economics, University of Birmingham, and University of Oxford, before joining Concordia in 2016. Her research interests encompass cultural anthropology, particularly focusing on sub-Saharan Africa, health and wellbeing, materiality, intimacy, human-plant relationships, and the influence of new media on social transformations. She has authored a number of publications, contributing significantly to the field with works examining fitness, body politics, and socio-cultural dynamics in Mozambique alongside mobile communications and their implications on personal relations and societal structures. Dr. Archambault's ongoing engagement in teaching includes various anthropology courses that highlight kinship, cultural practices, and historical anthropological thought.
