Dr. Julie Bidwell

Biography

Julie T. Bidwell, Ph.D., R.N. is an Associate Professor at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at the University of California, Davis. Her research primarily focuses on family caregiving within the context of chronic cardiovascular illnesses, particularly heart failure. Utilizing dyadic theory methods, she examines how patients and their family caregivers collaboratively manage chronic health conditions throughout adult life. Dr. Bidwell teaches and mentors students in family caregiving and patient-family engagement, contributing significantly to caregiving research and its implications on clinical outcomes. She has received prestigious funding for her projects, including a recent $450,000 fellowship as part of the Betty Irene Moore Fellowship program. Dr. Bidwell has a strong academic background with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing obtained in 2008, a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing in 2016, and a postdoctoral fellowship completed at Emory University in 2018. Additionally, she serves as the current Chair of the American Heart Association's CVSN Complex Cardiovascular Patient-Family Care Committee and has co-authored a significant scientific statement on family caregiving for individuals with heart failure. Her work is widely published in various prestigious journals in the field of cardiovascular nursing and research.
