Dr. Julie Boergers

Biography

Julie Boergers, Ph.D., is a distinguished pediatric psychologist currently on the faculty at Brown University. She earned her doctorate in Child Clinical Psychology from the University of Denver. After completing her internship in Child Clinical/Pediatric Psychology at Children’s National Medical Center, she undertook a fellowship in Pediatric Psychology at Brown Medical School, joining the faculty in 1998. Dr. Boergers specializes in integrated behavioral health approaches for pediatric medical problems and serves as the Co-Director of the Pediatric Sleep Program and Director of the Pediatric Behavioral Sleep Medicine at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Her research focuses primarily on sleep health in pediatric populations, particularly those with chronic illnesses like asthma. Dr. Boergers investigates the cultural influences on sleep patterns among children with chronic illnesses and explores the effects of childhood sleep disruption on family and academic functioning. She emphasizes the need for culturally sensitive approaches to address sleep disparities in ethnic minority and urban children. Dr. Boergers has been involved in numerous funded research projects and has contributed significantly to the literature on childhood sleep disorders and adolescent health behaviors.
