Biography

Julie Canman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and went on to earn her PhD in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002. Canman's research has focused on the molecular mechanisms of cancer and the development of innovative therapies. Her outstanding work has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award from 2011 to 2016, and the Kerr Award for Research Excellence from the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at the University of California, San Diego in 2008. From 2006 to 2009, she was a Special Fellow of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and previously held a fellowship from the Jane Coffin Childs Memorial Fund for Cancer Research from 2003 to 2006. Canman is actively involved in various cancer research initiatives and frequently publishes her findings in respected journals.
