Biography

Julie Chartrand is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa. She holds a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Ottawa and has extensive experience in pediatric critical care and perioperative care at the Children's Hospital Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Research Institute. Her current research focuses on enhancing patient and parent involvement in the delivery of healthcare for children, as well as improving the education of future nurses during pediatric clinical placements. Chartrand aims to enhance patient outcomes by valuing the role of patients and families in healthcare decision-making. She is particularly interested in improving access to quality care for francophone minority communities. Her research includes examining the experiences of francophone patients and parents in pediatric oncology care, and she is evaluating an online training program for assessing pediatric pain in francophone nursing students. Chartrand teaches primarily in French at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising master's and doctoral students in Nursing, and is open to new thesis supervision opportunities.
