Biography

Julie M. Claycomb is a professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on uncovering the molecular mechanisms of small RNA pathways related to microRNAs and RNA interference, which regulate gene expression during animal development. She is particularly interested in the tissue-specific functions of these small RNA pathways and their contributions to fertility and transgenerational epigenetic inheritance. Utilizing integrated experimental approaches in molecular genetics, genomics, and cell biology, her studies primarily employ the model nematode C. elegans to champion small RNA biology. Throughout her career, she has received several awards for her contributions to teaching and mentorship in the field of genetics, and she actively participates in various student mentorship programs including the Toronto RNA Club and Toronto RNA Enthusiasts' Day.
