Julie Dickson holds an LLB and Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Glasgow, as well as a MA and DPhil from Oxford. She is a Professor of Legal Philosophy at the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Law and is a Fellow and Senior Law Tutor at Somerville College. After completing her undergraduate degree, she pursued a DPhil on the philosophy of law at Balliol College, Oxford. Prior to her current role, she was a lecturer at the University of Leicester and University College London. Dickson's research interests include general jurisprudence and the philosophy of law, with a focus on methodological issues. Her important publications include "Evaluation Legal Theory" (2001) and "Elucidating Law" (2022). Along with Professor Pavlos Eleftheriadis, she co-edited "Philosophical Foundations of European Union Law." Julie teaches Jurisprudence and European Union Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has received awards for teaching excellence and served on the editorial boards of several distinguished legal journals, including Legal Theory and Oxford Journal of Legal Studies. Her latest book, "Elucidating Law," won the 2024 Alice Tay Book Prize for excellence in legal theory, awarded by the International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy (IVR).
