Julie Linsey is a Professor at the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, where she completed her doctorate in December 2007. Prior to joining Georgia Tech in January 2013, Linsey served as an Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University for five years. Her research focuses on the development of new methods and tools to support the early phases of the design process, with a particular emphasis on innovation and conceptual design. She integrates principles from engineering design and cognitive psychology to study design cognition and understand the cognitive processes of designers. Linsey's current projects include exploring the influence of physical models on idea generation, evaluating and developing methods for bioinspired design, and creating a sketch-based tutoring system for truss analysis. She aims to measure the impact of bioinspired design methods on engineering creativity and develop new tools that enhance innovation in engineering education.
