Dr. Julie Lundquist

Biography

Julie Lundquist is a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor at Johns Hopkins University with primary appointments in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Whiting School of Engineering and in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. She is a national leader in research focused on sustainable energy generation and atmospheric dynamics, utilizing both observational and computational approaches to understand the atmospheric boundary layer, particularly the interactions between the atmosphere and wind energy. Her research addresses atmospheric influences on wind energy production, as well as the atmospheric consequences of wind energy deployment. Lundquist's work has notably examined the turbulence dissipation rate and its impact on atmospheric dynamics, providing critical insights for optimizing wind farms and predicting pollution dispersion in urban areas. She holds a master’s and PhD from the University of Colorado Boulder and has a joint appointment with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
