Professor Dr. Julie Macpherson

Biography

Julie MacPherson is a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Warwick, where she leads the Electrochemistry Interfaces Group. Her research covers application-driven themes centered on electrochemistry and materials science, focusing on the development of novel instrumental techniques. Key areas of her work include understanding the relationship between material properties and the electrochemical behaviors of carbon-based materials, developing boron-doped diamond electrochemical sensors for healthcare and environmental monitoring, and utilizing electrochemistry to control the formation of metal nanostructures for sensing and electrocatalysis. She also works on advanced oxidation processes for pollutant removal and electrosynthesis for creating useful chemical products. Julie is significantly involved in the UK's Collaborative Doctoral Training Centre for Diamond Science and Technology, and she held a Royal Society Industry Fellowship at Element Six from 2014 to 2018. Her achievements include several prestigious awards, such as the Royal Society Innovation Award in 2017 and the Royal Society Chemistry's Tilden Prize in 2023. She teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in electrochemistry and related fields.
