Julie Podmore is an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment at Concordia University. She began her academic journey in urban geography at the University of British Columbia and completed her PhD at McGill University in 2000. Since then, she has undertaken post-doctoral research in Urban Studies at UQAM and has been a part-time faculty member at John Abbott College since 2000, becoming an Affiliate Assistant Professor in 2010. Her research is primarily focused on the historical geographies of LGBTQ spaces in Montreal, LGBTQ social movements, and urban place-making. Podmore is involved in various research projects that examine queer culture and governance in suburban settings across Canada, including the LGBTQ municipal social inclusion and community-based archives. She has co-authored several publications and recently received SSHRC Insight Grants for her work on queer cultural infrastructure and urban spaces. Podmore is active in research and community engagement, serving on graduate student committees and contributing to the Chaire de recherche sur la diversité sexuelle et la pluralité des genres at UQAM.
