Dr. Julie Thompson

Biography

Julie Thompson is an Associate Professor at Texas A&M University, where she directs the Behavioral Learning Interventions Children (BLINC) Lab. With a Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, her research focuses on innovative instructional strategies for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and intellectual disabilities. Thompson has extensive experience as a classroom teacher, providing her with deep insights into the challenges faced by individuals with ASD in public schools. Her lab employs mixed-methods research to enhance academic instruction and support inclusion, communication, and independence. Over her career, she has secured significant funding, totaling over $34 million for various research initiatives aimed at improving services for children with disabilities. Additionally, she has published 22 peer-reviewed articles and presented 58 papers at academic conferences, demonstrating her commitment to advancing the field of special education. Thompson also holds leadership positions within the university, including Chair of the Special Education Doctoral Program and serves on several faculty committees. Her dedication to education and research has earned her multiple awards for excellence in teaching and research.
