Professor Julien Gagneur's research focuses on delineating the genetic basis of gene regulation and its implications for diseases. He develops statistical machine learning algorithms and collaborates with experimentalists to design novel experimental approaches. Together with Dr. Holger Prokisch from the TUM School of Medicine, his group is developing strategies to pinpoint the causes of genetic disorders by integrating multiomics data, which includes transcriptomics and proteomics. Julien Gagneur studied Applied Mathematics at École Centrale Paris and Machine Learning at École Normale Supérieure de Cachan in France. He completed his PhD in Applied Mathematics in 2004 at École Centrale Paris, during which he worked with Heidelberg-based biotech companies such as Lion Bioscience and Cellzome AG. Subsequently, he joined the Genome Biology department of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg. In 2012, he assumed the group leader position at the Gene Center of Ludwig Maximilians University Munich and in 2016, he accepted an appointment as an Assistant Professor of Computational Biology at TUM.
