Biography

Julien Labonne is a Professor of Economics at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford. His research focuses on clientelism, electoral politics, and social networks, particularly in developing countries. He conducts field experiments and designs household surveys using large-scale datasets to test models of voter behavior and politician interactions. His fieldwork primarily takes place in Southeast Asia, especially in the Philippines. Prior to his appointment at the Blavatnik School, Julien was an Assistant Professor of Social Sciences (Economics) at Yale-NUS College in Singapore. He completed his PhD in Economics at the University of Oxford and holds master's degrees from both the University of Oxford and University College London, as well as ENSAE Paris Tech. Julien has also worked with the World Bank and consulted for the Asia Foundation, Millennium Challenge Corporation, and the OECD.
