Biography

Julien Larregue's research employs qualitative and quantitative methods to explore the origin, transmission, and structuring of expert knowledge and practices, particularly within the scientific and legal fields. His work interrogates the links between the evolution of these knowledges and the transformation or reproduction of social structures. He has focused on the influence of biological explanations, through disciplines like neuroscience, genetics, and evolutionary psychology, on the scientific understanding of human behavior since the mid-20th century. His book, 'Hereditary: Persistence Biological Theories Crime,' published by Stanford University Press in January 2024, is based on these studies and examines the implications of biological theories on crime. Recently, his attention has shifted towards three main issues: the work of specialized criminal lawyers from an ethnographic perspective in a major French city, the methodological reform in social psychology over the past fifteen years, and the relationship between symbolic hierarchies of research themes, methods, and disciplines, and gender inequalities in social science funding. He is a member of the Interuniversity Research Centre on Science and Technology and an associate researcher at the European Centre for Sociology and Political Science at the University of Paris-Panthéon-Sorbonne.
