Biography

Julien Meaud is an Associate Professor at the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 2010. He also holds an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution and a B.S. from Ecole Centrale de Lyon, France. Prior to joining Georgia Tech in August 2013, he worked as a research fellow in the Vibrations Acoustics Laboratory and the Computational Mechanics Laboratory at the University of Michigan. His research examines acoustics and dynamics, exploring the mechanics of materials and bioengineering. Meaud develops computational multiphysics models of the mammalian ear using the finite element method, investigating how these systems achieve high sensitivity and frequency selectivity. His research has significant clinical implications, aiding in the development of treatments and diagnostic tools for hearing loss. Additionally, he focuses on mechanics and design optimization of composite materials, particularly in response to cyclic loads, and aims to design materials with unconventional properties using computational tools. His research group fosters a theoretical and computational understanding in mechanical engineering among students, preparing them for future careers in academia and industry.
