Biography

Juliet Guzzetta holds joint appointments in the Department of English and the Department of Romance and Classical Studies. Her book, Theater Narration: Peripheries History Main Stages Italy (Northwestern 2021; translation Italian Accademia University Press, 2023), explores the contemporary solo theater's historical, political, and performative dimensions. Guzzetta received an honorable mention for the Modern Language Association Aldo Jeanne Scaglione Publication Award for her manuscript in Italian Literary Studies and has published articles in Theatre History Studies and Annali d’Italianistica among others. Currently, she is working on a monograph titled Acting Class: Lessons from Franca Rame on politics and feminism in postwar Italy, which centers on Rame’s performances and activism. Additionally, she is co-editing a collection of essays titled Italian Feminism: Transnational Praxis and has been the President of the Women’s Studies Caucus of the American Association of Italian Studies. Her research interests include 20th and 21st century Italian culture, dramatic literature, and gender studies. Guzzetta has been supported in her research endeavors by a year-long Fulbright grant in Italy and has received recognition for her theatrical work in New York City and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
