Dr. Juliet O Brien

Biography

Juliet O'Brien is a lecturer in the Department of French, Hispanic and Italian Studies at the University of British Columbia. She completed her PhD at Princeton University in 2006 and has a strong background in French and Medieval studies. Her academic career includes teaching positions at prestigious institutions such as Princeton University, Trinity College Dublin, and University College Dublin. O'Brien's research primarily focuses on Medieval literature and culture, specifically Old French and Occitan poetry. She is interested in the connections between medieval and post-medieval textuality, hypertextuality, and the role of reading practices in interactive communities. O'Brien's coursework includes French language and literature courses which are designed to integrate teaching and research to enhance learning. Her research interests encompass a wide range of topics including applied medievalism, cultural literacy, and innovative approaches to teaching literature that utilize digital technologies. Additionally, O'Brien explores themes such as feminism, marginality, and cosmopolitanism in her work.
