Dr. Juliet Usher Smith

Biography

Juliet Usher-Smith is an Associate Professor in General Practice at the University of Cambridge, where she has been a key member of the Primary Care Unit since 2009. She graduated with a PhD in skeletal muscle physiology from the University of Cambridge in 2007. Dr. Usher-Smith has previously held positions as a Clinical Lecturer and as a Cancer Research UK Prevention Fellow. Her research is primarily focused on optimizing the implementation of risk-stratified medicine to promote the prevention and early detection of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. This includes developing and validating risk models, assessing societal and psychological aspects of implementation, and conducting feasibility pilot studies within clinical settings. Current projects led by Dr. Usher-Smith involve multi-site feasibility studies related to proactive risk-based breast cancer assessments and evaluating the introduction of risk stratification in bowel cancer screening programs. In addition to her research responsibilities, she serves as the Strategic Lead for Education in her department, directing postgraduate education and supervising PhD and Master's students. She is also a Fellow and Clinical Director of Studies at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, and practices as a General Practitioner in Cambridge.
