Dr. Jun Gao

Biography

Jun Gao is an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, focusing on the intersection of 3D computer vision, computer graphics, and generative models. His research is aimed at developing controllable generative AI models to create photorealistic, diverse, and interactive virtual environments. He contributes to bridging generative AI with 3D representations in both computer graphics and 3D computer vision, enhancing the learning and utilization of structures in 2D and 3D data. His algorithms and representations have led to practical applications and real-world products, such as text-to-3D generation through NVIDIA Picasso and 2D image annotation capabilities within the Toronto Annotation Suite. His research work has been showcased at notable venues, including NVIDIA GTC, GANVerse3D for image-to-3D generation, and Neural DriveSim for 3D asset harvesting. Jun actively seeks motivated and talented students, encouraging prospective PhD candidates to align their research interests with his work.
