Biography

Jun Zhu is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the Eberly College of Science. His research lab focuses on exploring fundamental novel electronic properties of low-dimensional materials and nanostructures. His current interests include two-dimensional layered materials such as graphene and atomically thin metals, as well as new van der Waals compounds. He is particularly interested in controlling interactions and competing electronic degrees of freedom in topology of 2D materials to explore emergent quantum phenomena in one-dimensional and two-dimensional systems. His work employs van der Waals stacking, interface engineering, and advanced nanofabrication techniques to engineer new material structures and device functionalities. He uses low-temperature transport and strong magnetic fields to investigate the ground states and collective excitations of many-body systems.
