Biography

June Besek is a Lecturer at Columbia Law School, where she has been teaching since 1999. She serves as the executive director of the Kernochan Center for Law, Media, and the Arts, focusing on issues related to intellectual property. Besek teaches seminars for authors, artists, and performers and co-teaches on current issues in copyright. Her background includes significant experience in law, as she was a director at Reuters America Inc. and a former partner at Schwab Goldberg Price & Dannay, where she specialized in copyright and trademark law. Besek has been active in professional organizations, serving as chair of the copyright division of the American Bar Association’s intellectual property section and leading the section’s copyright reform task force. Additionally, she is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of the Copyright Society of the U.S.A. and serves on the board of advisors for the Columbia Journal of Law and the Arts. Prior to her teaching career, she clerked for Judge Charles H. Tenney in the Southern District of New York. Besek holds a J.D. from New York University, earned in 1981, and a B.A. from Yale University.
