Biography

Jungsang Kim is the Schiciano Family Distinguished Professor at Duke University, leading the Multifunctional Integrated Systems Technology group. His primary research area is quantum information sciences, wherein his group exploits trapped atomic ions alongside various photonics technologies to develop scalable quantum information processors and networks for quantum communication. His research encompasses the introduction of new technologies such as micro fabricated ion traps, optical micro-electromechanical systems, advanced single photon detectors, and compact cryogenic vacuum technologies. He is also focused on the functional integration of quantum information processing systems, making substantial contributions to the field. In addition to his role as a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, he serves as the Associate Director of the Duke Quantum Center. His contributions have been recognized with awards such as the 2021 Fellow of the American Physical Society and the 2016 Stansell Family Distinguished Research Award from the Pratt School of Engineering.
