Junlan Wang is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington. He earned his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanics from the University of Science and Technology of China and completed his Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2002. After a year of postdoctoral research at Brown University, he joined the mechanical engineering faculty at the University of California, Riverside in 2003 and moved to UW in December 2008. His research focuses on experimental mechanics and its applications in energy and advanced manufacturing. He is particularly interested in developing novel experimental techniques complemented by numerical and analytical approaches to study the mechanics and physics of materials and structures at small length and time scales, significantly impacting sectors such as semiconductor, biomedical, aerospace, and transportation systems. Prof. Wang has received several awards, including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the Beer Johnston Outstanding New Mechanics Educator Award from the American Society for Engineering Education. He actively contributes to various professional societies, having served as Chair of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers' Materials Division and as an Associate Technical Editor for the ASME Journal of Applied Mechanics.
