Biography

Jürg Utzinger is a Professor of Epidemiology and Director at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, University of Basel. He holds a Master of Science in Environmental Science and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology, having completed postdoctoral research at Princeton University. His research and teaching focus on epidemiology and the integrated control of neglected tropical diseases, as well as health impact assessments in low- and middle-income countries. He is engaged in transnational global health research consortia with ongoing projects in China, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa, and Tanzania. Additionally, he serves as the President of the R. Geigy Foundation and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Swiss Centre for Scientific Research and the Scientific Advisory Board of the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine.
