Biography

Jürgen Bernard is a Professor at the University of Zurich, leading the Interactive Visual Data Analysis Group. He is affiliated with the Digital Society Initiative, a cross-faculty research initiative at UZH. Bernard studied Computer Science with a focus on Computer Graphics and Bio Technology at the University of Technology of Darmstadt, where he completed his diploma thesis in 2009 on visual-interactive cluster analysis using neural networks. He received his PhD in 2015 with the thesis titled 'Exploratory Search Time-Oriented Primary Data.' In 2016, he began his postdoctoral research at TU Darmstadt within the Interactive Graphics Systems Group, where he led the Visual-Interactive Machine Learning Group. Two years later, Bernard joined the InfoVis group in Vancouver, Canada, led by Professor Tamara Munzner. His main research interests include the characterization, design, and evaluation of visual-interactive interfaces, with applications in machine learning and data science, specifically focusing on time series and multivariate data.
