Biography

Jürgen Berndt is a Professor of Mathematics at King's College London. He studied mathematics and business economics at the University of Cologne, where he earned his PhD in 1989. He was later awarded a one-year fellowship by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to pursue a research project at Michigan State University. After completing his project, he returned to the University of Cologne and obtained his Habilitation in 1995. In 1997, he became a Lecturer at the University of Hull and was later promoted to Senior Lecturer and Reader. In 2004, he was appointed Chair in Mathematics at University College Cork, where he also served as the Head of the Department of Mathematics. Jürgen joined King’s College London in April 2009 and was Head of the Department of Mathematics from August 2009 to July 2013. His research interests encompass geometrical problems with algebraic, analytic, and topological aspects, particularly the geometry of submanifolds, curvature of Riemannian manifolds, and geometry of homogeneous manifolds with Lie group actions. He has produced research monographs and over 50 articles, collaborating with mathematicians internationally across various countries.
