Biography

Professor Jürgen Gschwend's research interests primarily focus on operative clinical uro-oncology. He carries out research projects in molecular oncology, concentrating particularly on micrometastasis and signal transduction in bladder and prostatic carcinoma. After completing medical studies at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the University of Ulm, he earned his PhD in 1988. Professor Gschwend continued his clinical training at the University Hospital Ulm, working under Professor Hautmann at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He acquired postdoctoral teaching qualifications (habilitation) in 1998, emphasizing work on apoptosis induction in prostatic carcinoma. In 2006, he became a full professor in Urology at the Technical University of Munich. Professor Gschwend is the spokesperson for the Working Group on Urological Oncology at the German Cancer Society (DKG) and serves as a member of the advisory board for TUM's university hospital Rechts der Isar, along with being the Vice-Dean of the TUM School of Medicine.
