Biography
Jürgen T. Kohlhepp is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Physics at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research mainly focuses on (nano) magnetism, spintronics, surface science, and advanced preparation and characterization techniques for (nano) materials. He is interested in the structural, magnetic, and electronic properties of thin metallic films and epitaxial growth, utilizing methods such as molecular beam epitaxy and plasma sputter deposition under ultra-high vacuum conditions. Kohlhepp has studied magnetic interlayer and interface exchange interactions and spin-polarized transport in metallic multilayer systems, as well as hybrid systems combining organic materials with metals and semiconductor/metal oxides. His research interests are gradually shifting to plasma-science related topics, specifically understanding the interaction mechanisms at the nanoscale in well-defined model systems under controlled experimental conditions. He obtained his MSc in Experimental Physics from Julius-Maximilians University Würzburg, Germany, in 1989, and earned his PhD in 1994 from Clausthal University of Technology, Germany, under the supervision of Prof. U. Gradmann, focusing on thin-film surface magnetism. Kohlhepp has more than 100 peer-reviewed research articles to his name, with over 4000 citations and an h-index of 35.
