Biography

Justin Andrews is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Purdue University. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry at Gordon College in 2014 and earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Texas A&M University in 2020. After completing his doctoral studies, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology until 2023. His research focuses on using inorganic chemistry to address challenges related to energy transition and sustainability. He employs chemical principles to design and synthesize new materials and utilizes a suite of analytical and photophysical techniques to understand their properties. His lab's work blends synthesis of solid-state materials and molecular architectures to develop novel operando X-ray spectroscopic probes, addressing the interplay between atomistic, geometric, and electronic structures in relation to structural phase changes and electronic instabilities. Andrews aims to train a generation of chemists in critical thinking about electronic structures in extended systems and applying this knowledge to solve real-world challenges.
