Biography

Justin K. Canfil is an Assistant Professor at the Institute Strategy & Technology at Carnegie Mellon University. With a background in political science, Dr. Canfil's research focuses on the impact of emerging technologies on international law, arms control, and international security. Before joining Carnegie Mellon, he held postdoctoral fellowships at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School and the Columbia-Harvard China World Program. Dr. Canfil has also been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to China. In 2024, he will serve as a research associate at Princeton's Center for Contemporary China and as a Stanton Nuclear Security Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York. He earned his PhD from Columbia University, specializing in International Law at Columbia Law School.
