Biography

Justin Du Bois is the Henry Dreyfus Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University, with courtesy appointments in Chemical Systems Biology. His research focuses on reaction methods development, natural product synthesis, and chemical biology, particularly the role of ion channels in pain sensation. His lab is renowned for developing innovative C–H bond functionalization processes and using small molecule modulators to investigate channel function. The Du Bois group has pioneered new methods for the selective conversion of saturated C–H bonds to C–N and C–O bonds, which simplify the synthesis of complex molecules. The lab has made significant contributions to the study of eukaryotic sodium and chloride ion channels, aiming to elucidate the biochemical mechanisms underlying their regulation, particularly in the context of nerve injury. Du Bois has multiple roles in academia, having served as a faculty affiliate with the Stanford Neuroscience Institute and holding several leadership positions within interdisciplinary research initiatives. He has received numerous accolades for his teaching and research contributions and has been actively engaged with various scientific advisory roles in industry.
