Biography

Dr. Justin Eckstein is an Associate Professor in the Communication, Media & Design Arts department at Pacific Lutheran University. He holds a Ph.D. in Rhetoric Communication Ethics from the University of Denver, an M.A. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a B.A. from the University of Denver. His research interests include argumentation, cultural studies, and sound studies. His work has been published in several academic journals, including Communication Critical/Cultural Studies and Argumentation & Advocacy. Eckstein has also edited a book titled 'Cookery: Food Rhetorical Production' published by the University of Alabama Press. In addition to his academic publications, he received the New Investigator Award from the Rhetoric Communication Theory Division of the National Communication Association in 2020 and was named a Jackson Fellow for the 2020-2021 academic year. He teaches courses on applied research, argumentation and advocacy, and gender and communication. Eckstein’s scholarship focuses on the intersection of rhetoric, culture, and sound, shedding light on how these aspects shape public discourse.
