Dr. Justin Fantauzzo

Biography

Justin Fantauzzo is a Professor in the Department of History at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He specializes in the First World War, focusing on military history, war and society, and wartime cultural encounters. His research investigates the long-term health complications experienced by British ex-servicemen following the First World War, particularly those who contracted malaria in various theaters including Palestine and Macedonia. Fantauzzo's forthcoming book is titled 'The Great War Against Malaria: The British Empire, Disease, and the First World War', which draws from his extensive research into the experiences of soldiers in the First World War. He has also published works including 'The Other Wars: The Experience and Memory of the First World War in the Middle East and Macedonia', which examines the memory of the war in these regions and has received recognition as a long-listed candidate for the British Military Book of the Year in 2020. In addition to his research, Fantauzzo is dedicated to supervising students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, encouraging work in areas related to the First World War and British wartime experiences.
